Said no one ever. Whether it’s a romantic relationship, a friendship, or work-related, separating yourself from others is never easy. Especially when it comes to business. (Take it from me, I’ve conducted over 1,000 hires.)

Running a company means other people are essential to its success. But what happens when those entrusted aren’t living up to their expectations anymore?

Letting somebody — or sometimes, multiple somebodies — go brings up all kinds of emotions. It’s nerve-wracking to the point you’re constantly wondering if this is the right choice. To save yourself a lot of heartache, this knowledge will prove useful when making this business-altering decision.

Morale is affected

This person may have a milelong client list, but that doesn’t mean they’re always a delight to their work buddies. When they walk into a room, they’re the equivalent of darkness, not sunshine. Toxic behavior has no reason to be in the workplace.

They’ve had a thousand second chances already

If you’ve talked with them about their behavior or their performance and they just aren’t getting it, it’s time to put the hammer down. Don’t let your company suffer…
